The self-care challenge

The #6degrees4communitieschallenge was developed as a simple approach to encourage people to include self-care activities in their daily routine and to invite six people in their networks, otherwise known as their team, to do the same. The selected activities for the challenge are based on recommendations from websites for improving or maintaining positive mental and physical health. These include the Australian Government’s Head to Health website, Mentally Healthy WA’s Act-Belong-Commit website, and the Beyond Blue website.

The four activities of the challenge

The four self-care activities which are listed here can easily be incorporated into our lives.

  1. Learn a new skill or improve on an old one #grow

  2. Be active #active

  3. Live in the moment #moment

  4. Engage in meaningful connections #engage

These 4 activities, grow, active, moment and engage form the #GAME. The #GAME format was designed as an easy reminder for individuals and their team as to health-promoting activities to include in their daily routines. Links to resources supporting these activities form part of this initiative.

Why 6 degrees? As the saying goes, people are connected by six or less degrees of separation. If individuals can be encouraged to look after themselves, their loved ones and friends, stronger and healthier communities may potentially result.
